Mt. Abraham Vermont - Plane Crash info
This is my first post here. Hi everybody.
I am traveling to Vermont in 3 weeks to hike the Long Trail from Lincoln Gap out to Mt. Ellen and back. I have heard of a Cessna that went down in between the summit of Mt. Abraham and the Battell shelter but have found limited information about it. I am either going to take the Long trail from Lincoln Gap or the more challenging Battell trail. Can anyone tell me approximately where to find the crash site? Thanks. Last edited by Aesop74; 09-13-2005 at 03:38 PM. |

If memory serves me right, and I was there only a month ago
, as you descend N from the summit of Abraham and enter the woods keep your eye out for a well worn heard path on your left. It's only 10 min or so from the summit. If you look closely you can see "something" from the LT... it's the plane.Onestep |

Mt. Abraham Update
Thanks guys. Here's some additional information about the plane. I initially read that it happened in 1987 however that is incorrect. I researched the numbers on the plane and found this:
Date: 6/28/1973 Lincoln, VT Cessna 182N Registration Number N92431 - Nonfatal Crash. The pilot tried to navigate a cloud bank and struck some trees near the 3000' mark. He was on his way from Twin Mt., VT to Newburgh New York. Thanks again for the info. |

Abraham Info.
Most of the time the FAA removes the engine and fuselage to determine if the crash was caused by engine failure.
I found this information on this site: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/query.asp Really useful for the Catskills especially....enjoy |
