Jackson/Pierce/Eisenhower/Monroe/Isolation: 12-29

7:26am
Another late start after spotting a car at the Rocky Branch Trailhead. Thom joins us again and we are off up the well broken Webster/Jackson Trail.

9:09am
We are on the summit of Jackson relaxing and enjoying the views. Another spectacular day in the Whites...

10:41am
We arrive on the summit of Pierce. We take a few pictures then off we go.

11:42
We reach the summit of Eisenhower. The wind is blustery, so we we take shelter behind the rockpile and enjoy the views.

1:11pm
We are on the summit of Monroe. A helicopter passes overhead and circles around the summit of Washington. It hangs around for 5 minutes then heads back torwards Crawford Notch.

4:18pm
We finally arrive on Isolation. Trails were broken so we were quite relieved! We watch the sun set from the summit then start off on our long slog down to RT 16. We looked for Tramper Al and Company's bushwhack route from last Monday, but the new snow has made it invisible. We ended up following an AMC Trips broken trail, but they didn't do the bushwhack. We debated doing it ourselves, but since it was dark, and a trail was already broken, we took the longer easier way down. We did end up doing all 5 water crossings though, YIKES! The Rocky Branch Trail was the toughest part of the day.

7:54pm
We are back at the car. YIPPEE!!!!!!!

19 down, 29 to go...

Frodo and Stinkyfeet

Thom elected not to go all the way to Isolation, so shadowed a few minutes behind as far as Monroe, with summit times of 10:55 on Pierce, 12:10 on Ike, and 2:00 on Monroe, returning to Crawfords at 5:25 via the Crawford Path. Total summits now stands at 11, so 37 to go.

keep it up!

Hey guys,

great going. don't envy those water crossings, though. We had to wade through one (yeah, just ONE) down here in our neck of the woods, and it was a little too refreshing for my taste!

We're still thinking of coming up later in the week....

Dennis C. will become famous soon enough
Wow! This is really quite an impressive agenda for a winter day hike, Frodo and Stinkyfeet. The trail conditions you encountered helped you to achieve your goals, but it's still a LONG haul. I can tell you had a great time. "19 down, 29 to go... " : This sounds serious , Frodo!
