Trail: Metacomet Trail - Poplar Hill to Edgewood Rd

Date Hiked: March 25

Conditions: Small dusting of snow (at most an inch) on the north side of most hills... south side was compeletely melted out. Some mud in spots and some slush, but there were nice, dry areas too on some of the ridges. This 19-mile section is well blazed and easy to follow... the exception is the long roadwalk from New Britian Avenue to Ledge Road -- there are no blazes at all on the streets until partway up Ledge Rd... no troubles following the map. Crossing over the highway on Crooked Street was a little challenging -- no sidewalks and snowbanks plus fast moving cars!

Comments: Another nice section of the Metcomet. Silent Cal, Amicus, Tramper Al and I picked up where we last left off at 50 Cent's crib for a long but enjoyable day (except that last killer roadwalk down Edgewood!) Saw a great owl, turkeys and the guys saw four deer (curse of being the caboose was missing out on the deer for me.) We also stopped at Roger's Orchard partway through the second long roadwalk for a glass of apple cider, which hit the spot!
