Trail: Mt Frissell, Tri-State Marker, Bear Mtn from Mt Washington RD

Date Hiked: 7-9-07

Conditions: Trails in decent shape, some minor blowdown, steep sections up to round mtn, Mt Frisell, and Bear mtn. Trails were blazed well, even on rock surfaces. Blueberry's are out on Round Mtn and Bear Mtn.

Special Required Equipment: sun hat, sunscreen, BUG SPRAY, lightweight quick drying clothing, plenty of water, decent hiking boots for the rocky steep sections. A good map and compass, there are no trail signs, only paint blazes.

Comments: One flaw was prevalent on this entire trip, there were no signs anywhere!! No trailhead signs, sign-ins, map boards, trail signs etc., this is a rather remote, relatively unused area (we saw nobody else on the trails all day.) That being said, bring a good map (NY/NJ Trail Conference-Southern Taconics MAP) and a compass for this area. Also tell someone where you are going, no cell coverage here. This hike brings you to the point where MA/NY and CT meet. It also traverses the highest point in CT (Mt. Frissell), and the highest summit in CT (Bear Mtn), and traverses a small section of the Appalachian Trail. Do your research on this area before you set off, and don't miss Bash Bish Falls on the border of NY/MA nearby.
