Trail: Mt.Coe,So.Brother,No.Brother Date Hiked: 5/27/07 Conditions: Wonderful loop going up the Mt.Coe slide (elev.3795'), to So.Brother (3970'), to No.Brother (4151'). Remarkable views of Katahdin from north and west, as well as views of Doubletop. More snow and water than we cared to deal with on the Brothers, rail was pencil thin, snow depth 3'+. The views, laughter, great company, blue sky, spring plant life, wildlife, etc., made it worth the effort! Stream crossings were deep but doable. Slide up Coe was fairly dry, very steep. Special Required Equipment: Poles were essential. Snowshoes probably needed for another week or so. High gaiters helpful but impossible to keep all of the water out no matter what. Long pants were a good option, as evidenced by Jeff's red, bloody, scratched, battle-scarred bare legs. Comments: Hmmm, what was the best part of the day? The views or Al's filet mignon back at the campsite? Submitted by: Mrs. BBG |
