Trail: Sugarloaf, Spaulding, Caribou Pond

Date Hiked: June 2 & 3, 2007

Conditions: Up ski trails to Sugarloaf - snow basically gone. AT over Spaulding - snow remains, but it's not deep. Almost no blowdowns. Bushwhack from Spaulding Shelter to Caribou Pond - snow and blowdowns. Thank goodness for moose trails. Walk out Caribou Valley Road - marginally passable in a sedan to the AT crossing. Many collapsed bridges south of that point, though tracks show ATVs got through recently.

Special Required Equipment: Yaktraks optional high on Spaulding. Snow won't last long.

Comments: The AT looks to have been worked on recently. Most blowdowns cleared, and very little mud. My pants stayed clean (though not dry) until I started bushwhacking.
