Trail: OJI, coe, and marston loop below the brothers.

Date Hiked: 6-02-07

Conditions: oji was still a bit wet, esp on the steep slabs up higher. several blowdowns and wet slab made for interesting trail-finding. more blowdowns on coe-linnk trail. Fantastic view of the klondike from summit of coe. still plenty of snow from coe to junction of marston w/ north brother. didn't head up to either brother, but saw plenty of snow up path to s. brother. snow should be gone soon. it was soft enough that we were post-holing (in shorts) up to our waists. fantastic hike though, plenty of good opportunities to really figure out how to get up/down/over things without getting soaked.

Special Required Equipment: waterproof boots a must. high gaiters also very helpful. as were poles for the stream/snow sections.

Comments: lots of moose tracks, and moose/bear scat. no moose/bears that we saw, though. great day. we started a bit late to make it to mt ford, and were slowed down a bit by the snow, but who can complain about a day in the park, especially when we didn't see anyone on the trail all day (except for small shapes we observed atop katahdin with our binoculars). there are few places on earth more beautiful than baxter state park.
