Trail: Low Aziscohos Mt. via Mt. Trail and Firewarden Trail loop

Date Hiked: 06/17/2007

Conditions: Lower parts of both trails muddy down low. Lots of trimmed blowdowns on Firewarden's trail that you could crawl under or climb over. Firewarden's also very overgrown, as expected, but fairly easy to follow. Lots of black flies on lower muddy sections of Azicohos Mt. Trail.

Special Required Equipment: Good bug dope or headnet. Waterproof boots helpful for tall grass walk at end of Firewarden's trail.

Comments: Went up Aziscohos Mt. Trail and down Firewarden's and then visited Aziscohos Dam/Magalloway River. Final part was a walk uphill on Rte. 16 to car. I had never done the Firewarden's all the way. It makes a nice loop. Hazy up at top, which limited the 360 degree views a bit, but still got to see the many lakes and ponds of beautiful Western Maine.
