Trail: Bemis Range loop via Bemis Stream Trail and AT Date Hiked: 07/06/07 Conditions: Trails well blazed and well maintained. Both have rough and muddy sections, but not much of a problem. Special Required Equipment: Long sleeved shirt or windbreaker helpful up high. It was chilly in the early AM. Bug dope for road walk on Bemis Track back to my camp. Comments: This is a fun 12+ mile loop. Bemis Stream (Valley) Trail is lightly used and has a wild feel. Did not see anyone on that trail. Neat little rock scramble near the top. Really nice balsam scents throughout that section, too. AT is always rewarding on Bemis. There were many nice viewpoints. Bugs not an issue on either trail, but were BRUTAL on the road walk back to my camp (black flies, skeeters and no-see-ums)! Found an old path and campsite off the Bemis Stream Trail. Wonder if that was the former Elephant Mountain Lean-to site?? Submitted by:Marty VFTT |
