Trail: Redington Date Hiked: 07/14/07 Conditions: Dry and clear Special Required Equipment: None Comments: This was a continuation of a trip up Caribou Pond Road having done Sugarloaf earlier in the day. Caribou Pond Road conditions beyond the metal grate bridge mad it very slow going up to the AT crossing and beyond. Four wheel drive and good ground clearence necessary. We made it all the way up to the split where there is a large area to park. Vehicle travel up to Redington much beyond this point is hazardous and IMHO not recomended. The walk from here to the trail that heads off into the woods to Redington is just over three miles. We carried full packs as it was late in the day and were planning on camping out somewhere at the base which we did find a nice soft grassy spot to spread out. :-) After dropping our packs we headed up to Redington, which was easy going and clear. This is a much easier route than the one I took about five years ago off the sumit of North Crocker!! The sun was dropping fast so we spent only about ten minutes on top. Made our way down to the base, set up camp, had a nice dinner and called it a day. Just a side note, the log book in the canister at the sumit will need to be replaced soon, but Im not sure of what importance this is now that Redington is recognized 4000 footer....
