Trail: Horns and Bigelows, AT/Firewardens Trail

Date Hiked: 8/4-8/6

Conditions: All trails are in excellent condition. A few muddy spots, a few rotted out bog bridges, maybe one blowdown the whole way. Very few bugs... a few skeeters on the lower sections of Firewarden Trail near Stratton Pond.

Special Required Equipment: Pack towel for a quick dip in Horns Pond! Warm clothing for tenting in the col - it was cool and breezy at night. A few nails to peg your tent to the platform.

Comments: A great two-night trip with my son.

High points - excellent sunsets from the North Horn Saturday night, and again from West Peak on Sunday night. THREE saw-whet (I think?) owls near camp on Sunday night!

It was cool chatting with several southbounders. One of whom was carrying a total of 18 pounds! Amazing.

THANKS to the MATC for all their hard work.
