Trail: Saddleback and the Horn via Grey ghost and AT

Date Hiked: 8-12

Conditions: Grey Ghost quite steep with a few moderate spots..lots of loose rock underfoot..AT mostly a ledge walk over to the horn with a couple of muddy spots..tough walk down the ski trail though short..

Special Required Equipment: pole helpful on the steep spots ..rocks on summit ridge gripped well..sunscreen and a hat helpful

Comments: wow..excellent day above treeline,,,opted for shorter route..from the ski area over the AT due to timing concerns... The ski area provides maps that send you up the Gray ghost ski trail..pretty straight up the slope...certainly steep up with many waterbars...loose rock.just as steep going down..with caution needed... have to think there may be an easier trail but that is where they lead you..people very nice at the base lodge...May try a different trail next time..perhaps with some switchbacks...once on the ridge footing got excellent with open ledge with a few short steeps,,exceptional views on this awesome hike as the Over The Hill Hikers assault Maine..this was a reprise of a climb last done in 1983..as remebered..terrific above treeline hiking with vast views...OTHH to include Grumpy Gran, Native Lady, Quincy Girl, Silverfox, and Silent Sam, aka Sandwich Man
