Trail: Crockers and Reddington..via AT, Herd Path, CVR Date Hiked: 8-13 Conditions: AT a little wet down below but overall in good shape over to N Crocker..easily followed herd path with some pink flagging over to Reddigton passes through a large clear cut at around 3200 feet with great views down Coplin Plantation..hook up with recent logging road which reaches shallow col with small cairn and flagging to the right...3450 feet..follow pink blazes up ridge past good looking side trail that bears south down hill..summit cut for the tower offers some views to North crocker...very nice..still has the register up there..on descent we traced our steps down to logging road and followed right..quite wet and boggy in spots..rest of the way clear sailing Special Required Equipment: pole and water today...very dry ridge Comments: You can drive 1.5 miles past AT to the turnaround but gets alittle hairy after that..major bridge just past that point hairy on foot never mind in car..we opetd for at ascent and walked out the orad which offers excellent scenery..lots of wildflowers and berries.and good footing throughout..the trail comments on 6-24 on this climb were right on..we came in from Crockers but if coming from CVR follow those directions..looks like a good trail and takes you quite high on the ridge..all in all a nice hike today..best views were in the clearcut and on the CVR..pretty easy gpoing 12 mile day...good luck to Sue Diane and Lila who were headed up this way today...Day 2 of the Over the Hill Hikers go to Maine with Silverfox..Quincy Girl..Grumpy Gran..Native Lady..Silent Sam and Steve Submitted by: Silverfox othh |
