Trail: Mount Abraham via Firewarden's Trail

Date Hiked: 8-15

Conditions: A few muddy spots down below but easy walk into the cabin..rough climb starts immediately with....a couple of switchbacks..such a rare item in Maine..arrive at the base of the slide around 3300 feet and follow a pretty well laid out footpath through occaisional scrub to the summit

Special Required Equipment: we needed it all today..wind..sleet protection gloves were a treat..pole..pants..our bags were empty as we started down

Comments: A little tough finding the trailhead but a couple of well placed orange flaggins led the way..we went past signed trailhead and wound around basically to the left and came upon trail a bit above..hike into the cabin easy and mid 60's with sun..hot actually during steep part of the climb..clouds started to roll in as we tackled the slide and within 300 feet of elevation we had all the gear on as the wind was blowing with spitting rain..For the last scramble to the summit there was blinding sleet in the wind and we ducked into the cave type shelter up there a bit before heading back out....wind and sleet abated as we descended and back at the cabin where we had lunch we met Stu who was headed up armed with his umbrella and the ladies, Lila, Diane , and Sue who were well prepared..all and all a pretty wild day..we had though about contiuing over to Sugarloaf but the long exposed ridgewalk in that weather gave us an early day and some ladder golf back at camp..Quincy missed this one headed back to NH and she was missed by Silverfox..Grumpy Gran..Native Lady..Silent Sam..and Steve
