Trail: North Traveler

Date Hiked: 23 August 2007

Conditions: Dry, good condition

Special Required Equipment: None

Comments: Fine trail. It has constantly changing terrain and views, and there are good views beginning less than half a mile from the trailhead. The summit is a great vantage point, and I'm looking forward to doing the entire Traveler loop next summer.
There are, however, two aspects of the trail that seemed significant to me and that aren't covered in the AMC *Guide*, Clark's *Katahdin* guide, or Chunn's *50 Hikes*. Long stretches of the trail pass over scree, and the descent over gravel is slow and tedious. Also, where the lower part of the trail passes over ledges, the blazes are faint and not as frequent as they might be. In good weather, this causes no difficulty, but the trail could be dangerous in conditions of poor visibility.
