Trail: Little Jackson Mountain and Tumbledown Pond

Date Hiked: 9-3-07

Conditions: Little Jackson Trail in fine condition up to the summit. The trail down to the pond seems to be of new construction so not quite as well-marked or defined. Parker Ridge Trail has a lot of erosion.

Special Required Equipment: Sunscreen and layers! It was windy atop Little Jackson! A container for blueberries also useful :-) There were plenty and they were good!

Comments: A beautiful day to be out hiking! And what a great hike. The trip up to the col between Jackson and Little Jackson was quick. Then as we came out of the trees and onto the ledges, the trail meandered around the long way up to Little Jackson summit, but took us by some great blueberry bushes. Yum! We hunkered down in a wind blind built up on the summit to eat our lunch, and then ended up taking what we thought was an unofficial trail down the other side of the moutain to get to the pond. It was marked up high with cairns and then was like a herdpath in the woods. It turned out that this WAS a trail, or at least one under construction, for as we neared the pond, we came upon a trail sign! What do you know? We meandered along the newly cut trail to the pond, sat on the rocks with the many others enjoying the day, and then descended the Parker Ridge Trail, which was a great ridge with great views before we went into the woods! All in all, a good day :-)
