Trail: Katahdin via Abol/Hunt

Date Hiked: 9/18/07

Conditions: Trails in great shape. Kudos to the Maine ATC for the superb work they do on the trail maintenance...it's really a testament to their dedication.

Special Required Equipment: Good boots essential. Always prepare for cooler temperatures on the Tableland up to the summit. Poles useful on the descent down the Hunt Trail (A.T.) except for certain areas where long legs don't hurt!

Comments: Great day on Katahdin. Crystal clear blue skies and 5 MPH breeze on the summit. Abol was pretty challenging going up due to the loose rock underfoot. Better to ascend Abol and come down Hunt. Saw several groups of thru-hikers finishing their 2000 mile trek. Congrats to all the 2007 Thru-Hikers for their wonderful accomplishment. Also, kudos to the Baxter Park Staff for their pleasant demeanor and willingness to assist campers and hikers alike. Baxter is a gem in the hiking community and look forward to going back in '08!
