Trail: Balpate-East and West Peak

Date Hiked: 10/5/07

Conditions: First 2 miles on the AT up to West Peak was as level as can be expected for New England terrain. The last .9 up to the summit was challenging. Trails were well-marked and in superb condition. I was feeling pretty well about what good shape I was in until we got to the last few hundred feet on East Baldpate. It goes straight up and involves a lot of above-tree line scrambling. This hike is good for athletic kids. I took two of my daughters, ages 10 and 11 1/2. The views on East Baldpate are unbelievable.
