Trail: Bigelow Range Tr: Cranberry Mtn to Avery Pk Date Hiked: 10/06-10/08 Conditions: Dry, leaves on the ground, easy water crossings Special Required Equipment: Poles helpful on the steep sections of Avery and the Horns Comments: Peak foliage this weekend - great views and trail overall. There's BIG blowdown west of Cranberry Mtn, easy enough to get over until it's cleared. The bog bridges at Cranberry Pond are mostly rotted out (with spikes sticking out) so careful of your footing. (We found a rock bar near the pond leaning against a tree in case anyone was looking for it?). The springs have dried out at Moosefalls Campsite (and Horns Pond too), but the small puddle on the trail just north of Moosefall is flowing and filterable, as is Horns Pond. Submitted by:page |
