Trail: Mt Redington, via CVR

Date Hiked: 3/4/06

Conditions: mixed conditions. On the approach: sketchy, minimal snow dusting over crusty snow & ice on road. Lots of wind and blowing snow. At about 3300' there was ample fresh deep powder and the snow piled up nicely.

Special Required Equipment: Skis and snowshoes.

Comments: Using some beta from mohamed ellozy's site (http://home.earthlink.net/~ellozy/reddington.html) we negotiated the upper portion of the Caribou Pond road network and found ourselves in some excellent powder conditioons for the ascent to the summit of Redington. Almost as if the snow guns of Sugarloaf had been pointed our way. The summit was windswept and shrouded in fog & blowing snow. We hunkered down just off the top in the woods and marveled at the abrupt change in the conditions. The snow was dumping! and piling up fast.
We were psyched to be in full winter condtions after the rather dry spring-like conditions in Kingfield area. On our return we glided through deep powder. The road through the Caribou Pond area that was bare and boney on the approach was now covered with 6" of light powder. Conditions were excellent for our ski out.
