Trail: Kinsmans via Mount Kinsman and Kinsman Ridge Trail Date Hiked: 11-13 Conditions: Dry down below..a little muddy in spots past Bald Knob..icy spots at around 3200 feet then snow and ice at around 3600..a couple of navigable blowdowns..water crossings okay but ice in evidence Special Required Equipment: Pole helpful..layering as well..while one in the group barebooted the rest of us put on Stablicers at North and used going over and back then down to the snow line on descent..made it pretty easy going Comments: Started out from 116 in the clouds and they followed us over to South Kinsman and back..quite icy in spots but the temp just above freezing so there was more slushy stuff then anything else..hiked out of the clouds at around 3800 feet and made the side trail to Bald Knob for our best views of the day..very clear and cool with clouds just nipping the summits on Kinsmans, Mooselauke etc..Nice fsll hiking day with dry pine needles..mossy areas down below and snowdraped trees above..Nice to meet tom and Atticus on the ridge..quite the hiking pup Submitted by: silverfox |
