Trail: Adams and Madison via Airline, Lowes, Gulfside, Osgood and Valley Way Date Hiked: Nov. 18, 07 Conditions: 6"of powder at trailhead, 12" with 16" drifts just below Durand Ridge, Airline and Lowes had 2" of powder over rime ice, occassional thigh deep drifts on Gulfside, Osgood powder with rime ice, Valley Way 14" of powder at top with gradual reduction to 6" at bottom. Main trails mostly broken out by one or two people. Special Required Equipment: Perfect conditions for stabilicers or 6-pointers. Carried snowshoes but did not use them. Comments: Beautiful Presi day; temp on top ~15 with 5mph winds. Looked down on a marine layer of clouds most of the day with some upsloping winds that allowed "peekaboo" looks at Washington summit. Congratulations to Garret on climbing all 48 NH4's in his 60th year. He, Diane, Lyla, Susan and me celebrated on top of Madison with a bit of "anti-freeze"; for protection from the cold of course. It could not have been a more pleasurable day. Submitted by: Apex- Al |
