Trail: Mt Kinsman Trail/Kinsman Ridge to N&S Kinsman

Date Hiked: 11-18-07

Conditions: A bit muddy down low near the stream crossings. Several inches of packed snow leading to spur trail for Bald Knob....snow got deeper the higher we went. Maybe 8 inches of fairly packed snow on ridge....perhaps a foot in a few areas due to wind drift. A blowdown here and there, but certainly nothing major.

Special Required Equipment: We brought all the cold weather gear but never needed shells....very little wind on the ridge yesterday. We used stabilicers after the junction for Bald Knob and kept them on until reaching Bald Knob again on the descent. We carried snowshoes but never needed them.

Comments: Mt Kinsman Trail is just a fantastic route to Kinsman Ridge! Very gentle, outstanding views on Blad Knob, definitely a path less traveled. We'll do this one again.

Special thanks to Silverfox for providing us with directions to the somewhat obscure trailhead....very much appreciated!

Hello to Bob - the only other person we met during our entire trip up Mt Kinsman Trail and over to both North & South Kinsman.

We looked for the sign to Kinsman Flume on the ascent but couldn't spot it. Oh well, next time.

Another great meal with great friends at the Common Man in Plymouth.
