Trail: Mt. Jackson, Jackson branch of Webster-Jackson trail

Date Hiked: 11/18/07

Conditions: Combination of packed snow, lots of ice, and some water on mud - a little bit of everything. Rocks in stream crossings were icy and required extra caution. Lots of ice near summit, but the actual summit cone was fairly dry on the steep sections.

Special Required Equipment: Some kind of early-season traction device. I used Kahtoola Microspikes which worked well and are lighter and easier to put on than Stabilicers.

Comments: Two hikers in our group of three barebooted all the way up to Mt. Jackson. I used the Microspikes nearly all the way up, and all the way down. On the way down, one put on Stabilicers, the other used crampons. We didn't hike over to Webster because of the cloudy conditions so I can't comment on that portion of the trail.
