Trail: Garfield via Garfield/Gale River trails Date Hiked: 11/17 - 11/18 Conditions: 2 - 4 " of snow on the bottom at Garfield lot. Snow gradually increases to 12 - 16" at elevations above 3700'. Limited ice except at crossings. Special Required Equipment: Full winter gear. Some might have found traction devices handy, especially at crossings. I wore snowshoes from about 3000' and up. Poles are great. Comments: Bailing out on a Friday start to hike Sat/Sun turned out to be a brilliant stroke of luck. Weather was fantastic and there were spectacular periodic views all day on Sunday. We were lucky enough to share the shelter with a group of gentleman from a local outing club. Those fellers really know how to throw a party. Thanks for the finish line tins. What a great first winter hike of the year. Submitted by: 2/3 LATESTARTERS |
