Trail: Syoney Brook Trail and Carter-Moriah trail to Moriah Date Hiked: 11/23/07 Conditions: Lots of patchy ice, but right now it is avoidable with some cautios stepping. We made it all the way to Moriah without needing traction. There IS snow, but its not deep at all and is very crusty which makes for easy walking. The last pitch below the summit was the worst, so traction aids would be a bonus, but again not a must. However, I don't know how long it is going to stay that way. Special Required Equipment: Stabilicers or similar traction aids....crampons are overkill right now. Also, trekking poles are a plus. I normally do not carry them at all, but found them to be very usefull in this the 'inbetween' season. Comments: Temps in the mid 20's with wind gusts making for some frigid wind chills! Its not even official winter yet but it felt a,most like a late January day. Congrats to Scoutmaster Gary on getting numer 38!!!! Submitted by: New Hampshire |
