Trail: Speckled Mtn via Brickford Brook and Blueberry Ridge Trails

Date Hiked: 11-23-07

Conditions: Very thin layer of crusty snow, no more than an inch at any point. Patchy ice. Brickford Brook had mostly decent footing, only one or two tricky parts near the summit. Blueberry Ridge was a challenge at points, especially the steep part on the side of Blueberry Mtn. I recommend going up this way first, and then down Bickford Brook for now. The ice is everywhere, but so is the rock. Climbing it might be OK, but going down took a lot of care and really slowed us down.

Special Required Equipment: Traction gear not yet useful, despite all the ice. We carried crampons, but there was never more than 10 feet at once without a rock/mud interlude. Cross your fingers for snow!

Comments: What a beautiful day! We got a little lost on the lookout loop around Blueberry Mtn, but we didn't mind too much!

Note: The trails on Blueberry Mtn are marked with little tiny cairns. Once the snow builds up they could become quite a challenge to follow.
