Trail: Mt. Potash--Old logging road and Mt. Potash trail

Date Hiked: 11/24/07

Conditions: A light dusting of snow on the road. In the open woods 1/2 to 1 inch snow. The trail was icy in places on that section because of compressed snow from previous hikers. Once in the Hemlocks, there was almost no snow but the trail was very icy. Great care and some bushwhacking necessary. A couple of downed trees of no consequence. There was ice but no snow at the top.

Special Required Equipment: Stableicers or Yaxtrax could be used on the icy sections but most will bareboot.

Comments: The thought of trying to cross the lower Downs Brook with a pup on a leash without getting either of us wet, pushed me into taking the logging road detour. The logging road is in very good condition and no doubt is an easier approach. This mountain is an absolute gem. The walk through the Hemlocks is beautiful and the views from the top are spectacular.
