Date Hiked: 11/24/07

Conditions: Mixture of packed snow and ice to the hut. Ascent from the hut gave us bare rocks, blown snow and ice.

Special Required Equipment: Crampons up Ammonoosuc before the hut. Stabilicers better on the craggy sections and down the Jewell trail. Snowshoes not necessary, though there was 1-2 feet of snow on sections of Jewell before we got to the trees.

Comments: A most perfect kickoff to the winter season. The sun was bright, not a cloud in the sky and the winds died as we approached the summit.
