Trail: N Tripyramid by Sabbaday and Pine Bend Brook Trails Date Hiked: 11/24/07 Conditions: Thin crusty snow, often with ice underneath, up to 3" in ravines, almost no snow on summit ridges, just patchy ice. Stream crossings very difficult with ice covered rocks on Sabbaday trail, but relatively easy on narrower brook widths of Pine Bend. Special Required Equipment: Scrabbled up Sabbaday to the ridge with Yaktraks, just barely, following a much younger and more nimble barebooter. Only person seen all day. Switched to crampons, and glad to have them, coming down very icy north cone and steeper parts of Pine Bend. Comments: Poles and Yaktraks not enough to keep me balanced on non iced underwater rocks of Sabbaday. Stream dips more enjoyable in July. Pine Bend's the better bet, also very fine woods on lower stretch. Submitted by: Graybear |
