Trail: Kearsarge North via Kearsarge Tr. Date Hiked: Wed. Nov. 28, 2007 Conditions: Dusting of snow from bottom to top. Ice begins at the ledges. It rained about 1" the other day and all that water has frozen on the upper part of the trail. Lots of ice. The infamous ice bulge is in perfect form with cascading ice. We need some snow now. Bare booted to about halfway up the ledges and put my spikes on to the summit and back. I had no problem with traction. Stabilicers might not be enough in places. I brought my crampons, but didn't use them, however they would have been justified today. Climb took me an extra 15 minutes over my usual climb time. Special Required Equipment: Traction and poles. Bring your crampons just in case. Comments: Beautiful day today with some wind. I saw one other person while descending. A young (70+) lady (bless her) and her two poodle dogs. She said that she may not go all the way to the top because of the ice. Submitted by: Wolfgang |
