Trail: Calamity Brook Trail from Upper Works to Lake Colden

Date Hiked: 03/14/07 - 03/15/07

Conditions: 03/14 Snow was like Mashed Potatoes along Calamity Trail due to rain fall. Most of the snow bridges were solid on the way in. Set up camp for the night at Lake Colden Lean-To's North of Flowed Lands. At 2:30am 03/15 woke up to Flash Flood conditions on the East side of Colden. Floor of our Lean-To was completely submerged 12-18 inches underwater within minutes!!! Section between Lake Colden and Flowed Lands heavily flooded and hazardous. All snow bridges on Clamity Brook Trail were gone on the way out 03/15 .... Avoid this area for a while.

Special Required Equipment: Snowshoes...Inflatable Raft.

Comments: Members in our party were forced to abandon some gear at camp due to swift moving flood waters at 2:30am 03/15/07. In the event that anyone comes across gear it would be greatly appreciated if you could either leave it with the Ranger at Lake Colden or notify Ray Brook dispatch. Thanks
