Trail: Macomb, South Dix, East Dix, Hough Mtn. from Slide Brook|
Date Hiked: 7/707
Conditions: Slide Brook trail was very muddy in spots (As is always the case on this trail) as was the Lillian Brook Trail. There was a steady soaking of rain this weekend, so the conditions will only get worse. The Lillian Brook herd path is generally in good shape and I recommend it to avoid going back up to South Dix and Macomb. I understand the 46ers have done quite a bit of work to make this route passable. My legs thank you! It is flagged from Slide Brook with a cairn and yellow flags. From the top, it starts at the campsite in the col between Hough and South Dix Mtn and you can easily confuse this trail with the trail to South Dix. All the other herd paths are in good shape and are generally not to difficult to follow.
Special Required Equipment: lots of water, gaitors, a compass, knowledge of how to use one and a map!
Comments: Long hike, but generally easy to follow herd paths as long as you've read the guide books, know what to look out for and have a map.
