Trail: Halcott Mt bushwack Date Hiked: 11/3/07 Conditions: Went up from the Krump Hill side (south of Halcott). Steep but very easy bushwack conditions (we got skunked on Fir last outing - the blowdowns slowed us down to the point of running out of time) - seems like it was the perfect sort of day for it: good visibility, no vegetation (i.e. nettles!!!!!), and relatively cool and dry. Found the cannister pretty quickly and easily - great navigation by Flammeus, and Halia's eagle eye :) Big Mistake coming down: took the compass reading after heading way off course, and never corrected enough. We ended up with a long road walk - not a big deal this time but a massive dose of humble pie to chew on all the way back. Thank Halia for saying "how far wrong could we be?" Pretty dang far! Special Required Equipment: None - just use the stuff you bring! Or if you hike with us, maybe headlamps. Comments: Halcott's actual summit is quite small - a little bump that requires really scanning carefully. We got skunked on Halcott last time because in summer the leaves obscure visibility (and because blackberry brambles and nettles obscured clear thinking). Submitted by: Halia and Flammeus |
