Trail: Nippletop_Dial_Bear Den Date Hiked: 11/3/07 Conditions: Very pleasant day for a hike. It was overcast and damp, so we had to layer fleece/polypro. Mild weather and an absence of recent precipitation provided very clear, dry trails. Stablicers were not necessary - any icy spots could be carefully avoided by stepping around them. The ridiculously remote parking area (along Rt 73) added several miles of extra hiking along a variety of dirt and paved roads (shin splints, anyone?). The 14 mile round trip was my buddy's first hike of the high peaks. He enjoyed it so much he's willing to do it again! Maybe next time I won't pick such a long hike.... Special Required Equipment: Stablicers useful but not necessary. Submitted by: csmith |
