Trail: Dix from Round Pond Date Hiked: 11/11/07 Conditions: Almost no real snow until 3k ft. Above that snow is at most 4in deep on trail. Ice in areas, but it only mildly impedes progress. Special Required Equipment: We were able to bare-boot to the top and back with just poles. I could see where stabilicers could provide some added assurance in places. No snowshoes or crampons are needed. Comments: Absolutely fantastic hike. Temps were nice(~20) and the wind was almost non-existent (~5 mph). The views from Dix were some of the best I've ever seen. Jess and I spent about 40 minutes on top enjoying the sun, views, and a good lunch (it felt like it was 40 on top despite my thermometer reading just under 20). In 8:20, on summit 12:45, off summit 1:25, out 4:50. Submitted by: Zarathustra |
