Trail: Sewards Attempt via Calkins Brook Date Hiked: 11/23 Conditions: Calkins Brook herd path is easy to follow but current conditions kept our time down to a crawl--high water at the crossing and many swollen feeder streams--ice, snow and deep mud and lots of water along the path Special Required Equipment: The obvious--good boots, gaiters, stabilicers useful on icy rocks, crampons up high Comments: A long day--made it to the col(6-1/2hrs) after a tough climb-quad cramps and a sensible look at the time turned us around--12 miles, 10 hours--no summits--made it out just after dark-- Submitted by: Bill, Judy, and Snickers |
