Trail: CCC trail, Underhill S.P. X-C ski trip

Date Hiked: 23NOV07

Conditions: Started on Mountain road below the park entrance. Road passable w/4X4 but people skiing on road so did not want to get in their way. Trail well covered w/snow: ca 3’’ of light powder over crust. About 1-2’ base near top of CCC trail (ca 2,500’), a bit less down the mountain. Trail a bit rutted at bottom, but improved further up. Many small water crossings; annoying, but not problematic. Side trails looked a bit thin for skiing.

Special Required Equipment: Winter hiking clothes, esp. genitors essential. Skis/snowshoes useful on this trip. Went up last weekend and found snowshoes/skies very useful above 3000’ and yak tracks below that point. Poles always helpful.

Comments: First X_C ski trip of the season. Had a great time, zooming down the CCC trail. Saw some folks going up Sunset w/ AT gear. Hope people start to bring skis or snowshoes from now on to keep the trails from getting rutted.
