Trail: Mendon Bushwhack, over to Killington & down Bucklin Trail

Date Hiked: 3/31/2007

Conditions: There is still 1-2 feet of snow on the ground. Were able to bareboot up to where Mendon bushwhack leaves old logging road, used snowshoes on bushwhack up to Mendon Peaks and back on 2 ft of snow. By mid day snow getting softer on old logging road/trail to West of Killington and wore snowshoes. Old logging road challenging to find below (West of) Killington. Last 30 feet of spur trail onto Killington was all ice requiring crampons. Bucklin Trail down was hardpack snow down to stream, then minimal snow from there to Brewer's Corner.Water crossings weren't a problem

Special Required Equipment: snowshoes very helpful in some areas for flotation and other places for traction, crampons needed only on icy spot on Killington

Comments: Please note that the road in from Rte 4 by Pico Peak Ski area to Brewer's Corner is posted "for resident use only" due to mud season. Road is passable but soft due to frost going out.
