Trail: AT from VT 14, West Hartford to Connecticut River, VT/NH line Date Hiked: 4-29-07 Conditions: Trail is good shape. A bit muddy in spots, but mostly dry. A few minor blowdowns. No snow at all. Special Required Equipment: Raingear :-)
Comments: Despite the rain this morning on the coast of Maine, we made our way over to Hanover, where Steve from Apex Shuttle picked us up and drove us to the AT crossing in West Hartford. Nice guy, and a good way for us to do this hike with only one car. This section of trail was nice and mellow, with lots of open woods. As we wandered up and along, the wildflowers were starting to come up--rue anemone, yellow violets, lots of trout lily leaves with a few in bud, several trillium in bud as well. Also saw several turkeys, a woodpecker, lots of birds flitting about, even an owl flapping quietly by. Very cool. A fast hike today....and the weather was better than we would have thought. Only a few scattered showers, and "cloudy bright" throughout the day. Submitted by: Sparkplug & Snowman |
