Trail: Signal & Butterfield Date Hiked: 6-17-07 Conditions: No Trails. Butterfield: Parked at a pull off just before a bridge/downhill/turn whacked directly up to ridge. Very open and heavily vegetated with ferns. Several moose paths and the summit was guarded by a moose. veered right off ridge on the descent and came into a massive clod of STINGING NETTLES. Avoid this direction! Came out on logging rd about 600 - 1000 feet from car. Signal: Parked near Height of land at a minor pull off near a stream. Followed skidder path for a bit then ascended sharply. Woods were dense at this point but opened up once the ridge was achieved. Large amount of open spruce in higher elevations. Special Required Equipment: Extendable pants for dealing with those awful stinging nettle messes, Typical bushwhack gear. Bring a pen for the registers. Comments: The heavy undergrowth on Butterfield hid many dangers including raspberries, rocks and drop offs. Be aware of this. Submitted by: Marc howes |
