Trail: Long Trail - Lincoln Gap to Abe and Ellen and Back

Date Hiked: 7/7/07

Conditions: Increasing mud due to intermittent showers throughout the day - rock slabs up Abe were dry but getting slick on the way down. Slippery rocks and tree roots between Nancy Hanks, Cutts, and Ellen.

Special Required Equipment: Nothing unusual. Carried poles but didn't use them - might have helped when the rain started - but I like to keep my hands free on the rocks.

Comments: Lots of goofy photo ups of the boys taking a break on the ski lift chairs. Various sources give the elevation gain for this hike as 1600 ft - the difference between Lincoln Gap to Abe or Ellen- don't forget the ups and downs along the ridge. It felt like another 1000 ft cummulative. The uphill climb back to Lincoln Gap at the end of this 12.6 mile hike is a bit of a bummer. On the upside we were intermittently able to see though the clouds and fog to the surrounding area will be back to do the rest of the Monroe Skyline. Got a great view of Camel's Hump, which we climbed a week ago. #'s 65 & 66/67 NE 4K.
