Trail: Mendon Bushwack, Bucklin Trail Date Hiked: 9/25/2007 Conditions: Eddy Brook logging road in great shape. Easy river crossings Special Required Equipment: Long shirt pants for the wack. Comments: Started from the Eddy Brook logging road with Kasha the Wonder Dog and made good time to the third cairn (there are 3 cairns, though the second is fairly small). River crossings very easy. Did the bushwack last week from the same cairn and landed in a tough section of blowdowns by heading too far south (to what appeared to be a flatter approach). Kept more westerly this time and found it very nice going. One of the herd paths to the East summit is marked with pink flagging and continues to the main summit. Incredible expansive views to the south from the rocky ledge of the main peak. Fall has taken hold. Came down more or less the same way and continued east then north on the logging road to the junction of the AT. The old logging road has been actively maintained with many blowdowns cleared away to make for a nice stroll. Headed down the Bucklin Trail to the car and delighted in an ice cold Long Trail or three. Beautiful weather, excellent 9 mile round trip. Submitted by: Coydog and Kasha the Wonder Dog |
